In The Mist

Image
After years, in that same mist, What will I do if I see you in quiet hours? Will you be there, or just a ghost? If I find you standing still, with eyes That I’ve known for years, Will my eyes meet yours and stare, Or will I not even take a glance? Will my feet freeze, or will they move? Or will I simply walk away? Will I call your name loud, Or will I stay silent? Perhaps you’ve grown beyond The boy you knew, the dreams we shared. Perhaps the past is just a pond That time has emptied, cold and bare. For though the mist may blur the sky, I will let it devour me. Let the fog wrap around my soul, A phantom touch on my weary skin. Embrace the shadows where I tread. For in this mist, I’ll linger long, But still, I hope—despite the pain— That in the mist, I’ll see your face. And though we’ve changed, Perhaps we’ll meet again. I guess I will never know till we meet, And yet, I wish we never do.
